Full many a glorious morning have I seen
Flatter the mountain tops with sovereign eye,
Kissing with golden face the meadows green,
Gilding pale streams with heavenly alchemy;
Anon permit the basest clouds to ride
With ugly rack on his celestial face,
And from the forlorn world his visage hide,
Stealing unseen to west with this disgrace.
Even so my sun one early morn did shine,
With all triumphant splendor on my brow;
But out alack, he was but one hour mine,
The region cloud hath masked him from me now.
Yet him for this my love no whit disdaineth;
Suns of the world may stain when heaven’s sun staineth.

注释

友谊上开始出现了阴霾。诗人把他的爱友比做早晨的太阳，只有一瞬息的灿烂，就被阴云掩没了。但诗人对他的爱，使诗人并不因此而轻视他，因为天上的太阳既然会暗，人间的太阳，自然也不免有瑕疵。——第五行：“低贱”同时暗示乌云“低”横在天空。第九行：“我的太阳”指诗人所爱的人。第十二行：“上空”指“我的太阳”所在的“上空”，其实是指人间，亦即第十四行中的“世上”。第十四行：“世上的”即人间的太阳，指诗人所爱的人。
